ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar, and ICAR-KVK, Khordha, organised a workshop on 'Women Empowerment through Aquaculture' on the occasion of International Women's Day 2024 under the SCSP programme today.
The Chief Guest, Smt. Bijayini Singh (OPS) and DSP, Odisha State Commission for Women, Bhubaneswar, urged women to participate in the social and economic development of society and help to bring equality. She also spoke about the dangers of social media and how easily women can fall prey to cyber fraud and criminals.
Dr. K. D. Mahapatra, Former Pr. Scientists and the Guest of Honour spoke about the need for women to be economically independent and inspired to take the lead.
Dr. S. S. Giri, Director (I/C), ICAR-CIFA, spoke about the various programmes undertaken by the institute for the empowerment of women.
Dr. Harapriya Nayak, Senior Scientist and Head, ICAR-KVK, Khordha, delivered a lecture on ‘Pond-based integrated farming system brings prosperity among women SHGs’.
Special Guest, Ms. Linkan Subudhi, Social Activist and External Member, ICC, ICAR-CIFA, emphasised the status, role, and importance of women in building a safe society through digital technologies.
Earlier, Dr. Bindu R. Pillai, Principal Scientist and Chairperson, Internal Complaints Committee, ICAR-CIFA, highlighted the activities of the women's cell of the institute.
The Guests distributed prizes to the winners of the various competitions arranged in connection with the IWD 2024.
A total of 40 farm women from 6 SHGs from Guapur and Majhihara villages of Balipatna block of Khordha district attended the workshop.
