Smt. J. Mercykutty Amma, Minister of Fisheries, Harbour Engineering & Cashew Industry, Government of Kerala launched the ambitious and pioneering Eco-sustainable Project, “Parivarthanam” today. The Project with the multi-pronged strategies aims to empower the young mass with employment facilities and ameliorating the socio-economic status of the fishermen community along the coastline through different skill development programmes and implementation of various eco-friendly fishery activities.
She emphasized about conceiving the project to manage the state’s aquatic and agricultural products through intelligent and productive use of human resources and, on the other hand, promoting the processing and marketing of clean fish and its fish products. The project would develop entrepreneurship through appropriate programmes on quality fish supply & marketing, promotion of green energy, elimination of skill gaps and building bridges to industry.
The Minister handed-over a set of retort pouches carrying value-added fish products to Dr. T.M. Thomas Isaac, Finance Minister, Government of Kerala during the occasion.
The ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Cochin, Kerala developed a Public-Private Partnership with the Kerala State Fisheries Department for reinventing the future of the people affected with COVID-19 Pandemic through the Project.
The Institute with its advanced technologies in harvest and post-harvest fisheries is supposed to take-up the pivotal role of monitoring procurement and processing of fish besides ensuring its quality. It will also provide consultancy and capacity building programmes to the fish workers, college drop-outs and migrant workforce to develop entrepreneurship in fisheries.
Shri Sheik Pareeth, Managing Director, KSCADC, Kerala; Dr. K. Ashok Kumar, Director, ICAR-CIFT, Cochin and Shri Roy V. Nagendran, Vice-Chairman, Society for Advanced Technologies and Management (SatM) along with other local Administrations and Public Representatives also participated in the event.
