The ICAR-Central Research Institute for Jute and Allied Fibres, Barrackpore, Kolkata celebrated its “68th Foundation Day” today.
In his inaugural address, the Chief Guest, Prof. Swapan Kumar Datta, Vice-Chancellor, Biswa Bangla University & Former Deputy Director General (Crop Science), ICAR urged to have effective collaboration among the different stakeholders for promoting the jute fibre technologies. He emphasized that the new initiatives of the ICAR-CRIJAF in research like “capilo jute”, “retting with free flowing water” and “In-Situ retting tank based eco-farming model” will certainly enhance the yield and fibre quality of jute and fulfil the jute farmers’ aspiration for better income and profitability.
Dr. B.K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore, Kolkata; Shri A.K. Jolly, Managing Director, Jute Corporation of India and Dr. D.B. Shakywar, Director, ICAR-NINFET, Kolkata also marked their presence as the Guests of Honor and Special Guests of the occasion.
Earlier, in his address, Dr. Gouranga Kar, Director, ICAR-CRIJAF, Barrackpore, Kolkata outlined the major achievements, varieties and technologies developed by the Institute to resolve the bottlenecks and problems faced by the farmers in the cultivation of jute and allied fibre crops. Dr. Kar highlighted the research strategy to bridge the yield gap by breaking the yield barriers
Around 300 farmers, scientists, officials from ICAR Institutes, Central and State Government Organizations participated in the Field Day-cum-Demonstration and live demonstration of different technologies organized during the occasion.
