ICAR-CSWRI organises Farmer-scientist interaction

A farmer-scientist interaction and free distribution of Malpura sheep to the Scheduled Caste farmers of Malpura sheep project under Network Project on Sheep Improvement was organized at sector 18 of AGB Division, ICAR- Central Sheep and Wool Research Institute, Avikanagar today.  5 Scheduled Caste farmers belonging to Below Poverty Line from 5 villages of the project area benefitted with one unit of Malpura sheep i.e two females and one male to each farmer.

Dr. Arun Tomar, Director, CSWRI, explained the role of the Institute in the genetic improvement of different breeds as well as the importance of scientific sheep rearing. He also emphasized the role of the Malpura sheep project in the improvement of this breed both at the farm and field level. Dr. Tomar highlighted the tremendous achievements that occurred in growth performance over the years.

Dr. Gaya Prasad, former Assistant Director General (Animal Health) and former Vice Chancellor, SVPUA&T, Meerut, Dr. B. K. Joshi, Former Director, ICAR-NBAGR, Karnal, Dr. Mahesh Chander, Head, Division of Extension Education, ICAR- Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Bareilly, Dr. A.K Samanta, Head, Animal Nutrition Division, NDRI, Karnal, Dr. S. S. Misra, Head AG&B Division and other officials participated in the programme.

During the interaction, farmers were provided solutions to various issues they were facing. They were advised to increase the flock size and follow scientific breeding and management practices to get more returns from sheep farming.
