ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh celebrated its 37th Foundation Day here today.
The Chief Guest, Dr. A.K. Nayak, Deputy Director General (Natural Resource Management), ICAR in his virtual address emphasized on the development of protocol for herbicide-tolerant rice, weed management in herbicide tolerant crops, natural framing, development of weed atlas and the need to address the problem of herbicide-resistant weeds under the changing climate scenario.
Dr. P.K. Mishra, Vice Chancellor, Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur; Dr. Mandeep Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary Science University, Jabalpur; Dr. A. Velmurugan, Assistant Director General (Soil and Water Management), ICAR; Dr. S.R.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Jabalpur; and Dr. A.K. Vishwakarma, Project Coordinator, AICRP on Sesame and Niger also attended the programme as guests of honour.

The Foundation Day lecture was delivered by Dr. A.K. Pandey, Former Vice Chancellor, Vikram University, Ujjain. He emphasized the need for research on weed management through modern biological methods and the potential uses of weeds. Earlier, delivering the welcome address, Dr. J.S. Mishra, Director, ICAR-DWR, Jabalpur underlined the Institute’s achievements highlighting the progress of the research and development made during 2024-25.
On this occasion, important publications were also released. The ICAR-DWR employees and progressive farmers were also honoured on this occasion. The event registered participation by 100 Scientists and Staff Members of the Institute and the Invited Guests from the various Organizations, NGOs, Farmers and Academia; besides, 46 Virtual participants.
