ICAR-Indian Agricultural Statistics Research Institute, New Delhi celebrated its Annual Day here today.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary, DARE & Director General, ICAR, while delivering the presidential address emphasized the following three points that need to be done on the Annual day: (i) exchange of pleasantries among the colleagues and fraternity, (ii) Present and discuss what has been done so far and (iii) Think upon what to do in the future to make the Institute progress further. He also conveyed that the Institute has contributed significantly in the area of Statistical Sciences and e-governance activities. The Director General also emphasized the importance of quality data, correct data, and authenticated data for well-informed decisions.
Dr. Santanu Chaudhary, Director, Indian Institute of Technology, Jodhpur delivered the 33rd Nehru Memorial Lecture on the topic “Artificial Intelligence in Agriculture”. He talked about the issues faced by AI in its acceptance by users like: Lack of explainability and Trustability issue. Dr. Chaudhary explained the importance of Generative Advisory using AI in Agriculture and also talked about developing open query-based chatbots for agriculture applications. He briefed about Machine Learning Integrity ML Consistency, ML Explainability, ML Security and ML Producibility. He exhorted that the Observational Casual Inference framework is important to be developed by emulating the experiments in agriculture.
The Guest of Honour, Dr. R.C. Agrawal, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Education) & National Director (NAHEP), in his remarks, mentioned the glorious past of IASRI and shed light on the contributions and importance of the Institute for ICAR and for entire NARES. He called IASRI as the “heart of entire ICAR and NARES”.
Following four publications were also released on the occasion: (i) Agricultural Research Data Book (ARDB) 2023; (ii) Technical Bulletin on “Evaluation of Comprehensive Scheme for Cost of Cultivation of Principal Crops (CS Scheme)”; (ii) Technical Bulletin on “Evaluation of Improvement of Agricultural Statistics (IAS) Scheme” and Brochure on Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality Brochure. Authors of the paper published the research paper with 10+ Impact factor in which IASRI as lead were awarded an appreciation certificate. Students also prepared beautiful rangoli during celebrations.
Earlier, Dr. Rajender Parsad, Director, ICAR-IASRI briefed the recent activities, major achievements, honors & awards, collaborations & linkages, statistical methodologies and their impact, human resource development, products, digital initiatives, etc, of the institute.
