The ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar conducted All India State Animal Husbandry Directors Interface Meet-2023 with 28 states and 6 Union territories today.
Shri Parshottam Rupala, Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, was the Chief Guest of the inaugural session. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Abhijit Mitra, Animal Husbandry Commissioner, DADH&F, and Dr. Triveni Dutt, Director, ICAR- IVRI.
Shri. Rupala urged state departments to collaborate with state universities to meet specific needs. He emphasised preparing an animal register for birth and death accounts of livestock and developing scientific disposal methods. Further, the scientific way of disposal of dead carcasses may also be worked out. The Minister urged State Animal Husbandry Directors to implement capacity-building programs for stakeholders to equip them with the latest technologies.
Dr. Mitra urged us to focus on research to tackle AMR and develop alternative ethno-botanical therapies to reduce antibiotic use. He also suggested exploring a new vaccine development platform and proposing action plans for free-roaming animals.
Various directors discussed problems in their states related to animal husbandry practice, disease diagnosis, and capacity building of their veterinarians. It was further suggested various need-based researchable issues should be undertaken.
