ICAR Institutes celebrates Farmers’ Day- 2023

Kisan Diwas also known as National Farmers Day is celebrated on 23rd December every year to mark the Birth Anniversary of the 5th Prime Minister of India, Shri. Choudhary Charan Singh. This day is observed to honor and pay tribute to the farmers, who are considered the nation's backbone.

ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur, organised Kisan Divas at village Khukham, Kundam, Jabalpur (M.P.) today.

Dr. J.S. Mishra, Director, ICAR-DWR, Jabalpur, briefed about the Directorate's activities, and improved weed management techniques for higher crop yields. He urged the farmers to adopt integrated weed management techniques.

The program organised a lecture on millet cultivation, natural farming, and improved weed management techniques for various crops. It highlighted the nutritional value of millets and encouraged farmers to cultivate them.

More than 200 female/male tribal farmers from Khukham, Ranipur, Kalyanpur, Dehrikala, Padariya, Deori villages participated in the programme. Jabalpur panchayat and Village Panchayat officials, officials from NGOs, Scientists and other Stakeholders also attended the programme.

ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa, and ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, North Goa, jointly organised National Farmers Day at Mayem village with the primary aim of recognising and valuing the farmers' contribution to the socio-economic progress of the country.

Mrs. Suphala Y Copdekar, Deputy Sarpanch, Mayem Gram panchayat, was the Chief Guest of the function. She enlightens the farmers' issues in details, encompassing the acquisition of critical inputs, marketing, and post-harvest operations.

Dr. N. Bommayasamy, Senior Scientist and Head, ICAR-KVK, CCARI, appreciated the farmers' contribution to expanding the national economy. He emphasised that by implementing modern technology, farmers' incomes can be increased, and their standard of living can be raised. He assured the farmers that ICAR-CCARI & KVK would lend all possible and untiring support to farmers who need it.

A Total of 52 farmers and farm women participated in the function.

ICAR-CRIDA celebrates National Farmers’ Day, Telangana

ICAR- Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture, Hyderabad, celebrated National Farmers’ Day at Malkapur village, Gudi Athnoor Mandal, Adilabad district, Telangana under the TSP project and also at Chindanur Village, Chincholi Taluk, Karnataka today under SCSP.

Dr. Vinod Kumar Singh, Director, ICAR-CIDRA, briefed about the importance of the soil-plant-animal health continuum in agriculture.  He urged farmers to keep their houses, surroundings, and farms neat and clean and also asked them to recycle the residues into organic manure and to stop using single plastic. 

About 250 farmers participated in the mega event including Sarpanch of the cluster of villages where the TSP project is being implemented.

ICAR-CRIDA, Hyderabad also celebrated Farmers’ Day at Chindanur Village, Chincholi Taluk, Karnataka today under SCSP.

The program organised drone applications and benefits and gave a demonstration of spraying pesticides to the farmers. Yellow sticky traps were demonstrated in a farmer's field and briefed about its’ advantages.

About 150 farmers participated in the event. 

ICAR-NAARM Celebrates Kisan Diwas, Hyderabad

ICAR- National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad, celebrated Kisan Diwas at Bopalle village of Telkapally Mandal, Nagarkurnool District, Telangana today on the theme “Cultivating the Future: Innovation and Sustainability in Agriculture” as a part of Swachhta Pakhwada being observed by ICAR from 16th – 31st December 2023.

ICAR-NAARM Celebrates Kisan Diwas, Hyderabad

The team organised an interface with the farmers (77) of the village with the support of Ms Joshna, Agricultural Extension Officer (AEO) of the village.

Nutrition along with food security were discussed and saplings of fruit plants were distributed among farmers. 

ICAR-CIBA celebrates Kisan Diwas at Kasimedu fishing harbour, Chennai, Tamil Nadu

ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (CIBA), Chennai, Tamil Nadu, has celebrated Kisan Diwas as an activity of Swachhata Pakhwada at Kasimedu fishing harbour, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, by conducting an awareness programme on waste to wealth.

Dr. Kuldeep Kumar Lal, Director, CIBA, has installed a fish waste processing unit in all fish markets and coastal states, based on farmers' interest, and has encouraged the use of CIBA-PlanktonPlus and CIBA HortiPlus in agriculture.

Around 150 fish farmers including local fishermen cooperative society members, panchayat representatives, press and media, MCRC team, and CIBA team participated in the programme.
