ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, KVK, North Goa, and Sanquelim Municipal Corporation collaborated to celebrate International Women's Day and the Natural Farming Awareness program at Sanquelim Municipal Hall, here today.
The Chief Guest, Mrs. Sawant Sulakshana Sawant, President, All-Goa Self Help Group, emphasised enhancing sustainable livelihood of women's empowerment by organizing diverse value-added agriculture production. She highlighted the importance of women ensuring the consumption of healthy and nutritious food free from any residue to create a prosperous and healthy society.
Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, Goa, highlighted the achievements and recognition of Goan farm women from the state and central government. He emphasized the efforts of ICAR to reduce drudgery in complex farm operations and improve the economic status of women involved in farming in Goa and the coastal region. Shri. Kumar emphasized that women, comprising over half of the global population, play a crucial role in peace and national development.
Dr. N. Bommayasamy, Senior Scientist & Head, ICAR-KVK, North Goa, briefed about the significance of celebrating International Women's Day and the valuable contributions made by women in various sectors of national development.
Mrs. Rashmi Desai, Chairperson, Sanquelim Municipal Corporation, and Dr. Udharwar SV, SMS (Animal Science), were present during the programme.
The programme included a millet recipe competition, and quiz completion besides a presentation on natural farming practices and their importance in Goan agriculture. Twenty-five women participants were honored for their exceptional contributions to society and agriculture.
A total of 196 farmwomen and members of self-help groups participated and benefited from the event.
