ICAR-National Institute of Biotic Stress Management, Raipur celebrates Foundation day

ICAR-National Institute of Biotic Stress Management, Raipur, Chhattisgarh celebrated its 11th foundation day here today.

The Chief Guest, Dr. Ashok Dalwai, Chief Executive Officer, National Rainfed Area Authority, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, in his Foundation Day Lecture, emphasized on the need of research on interaction of biotic stresses under abiotic conditions under the influence of climate change scenario. He urged the scientist fraternity to work on science of discovery and science for delivery.

Dr. Girish Chandel, Vice-Chancellor, Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidhylaya, Raipur and Dr. Shiv Kumar Agrawal, Coordinator, ICARDA-South Asia and China Regional Programme, Head, Food Legume Research Programme, International Centre for Agricultural Research on Dryland Areas were the Guests of Honour. They emphasized for high quality research work and output so as to establish ICAR-NIBSM as centre of excellence for biotic stress management in global arena in next few years.

Dr. Pau Fermosa-Jordan, Group Leader, Department of Plant Developmental Biology, Max Planck Institute of Plant Breeding Research, Germany delivered the Special Guest lecture on Quantitative approaches to understand plant development.

Dr. P.K. Ghosh, Director and  Vice Chancellor, ICAR-NIBSM, in his Presidential address  briefed about the significant achievements of the Institute.

Earlier, all the dignitaries planted tree sapling and inaugurated the farmer’s residential training hostel.

 In the Farmers-Scientist Interaction meeting, application of drone for biotic stress management was demonstrated and later on farmer’s issues related to agricultural practices and plant protection measures were addressed.

The program was coordinated by Dr. S.K. Ambast, Principal Scientist & Joint Director (Education).
