In a major step towards strengthening academic and research collaboration, ICAR–National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University (MJPRU), Bareilly. The signing ceremony took place today in Lucknow, marking the beginning of a strategic partnership focused on interdisciplinary research and academic engagement.
The MoU aims to promote joint efforts in areas such as biotechnology, aquatic ecosystem conservation, molecular genetics, and fisheries resource management. Under the agreement, scientists from ICAR-NBFGR will be recognized as Ph.D. supervisors for students enrolled at MJPRU. These students will also have the opportunity to complete six months of coursework at ICAR-NBFGR, gaining access to the institute’s cutting-edge research infrastructure.

Dr Kajal Chakraborty, Director, ICAR-NBFGR, highlighted the importance of the partnership in aligning academic research with applied conservation strategies. "This collaboration will strengthen the scientific ecosystem and contribute to national priorities in sustainable aquaculture and biodiversity conservation," he said.
The collaboration encompasses faculty exchange, joint research initiatives, training programs, and shared use of laboratory facilities. It is expected to enrich experiential learning while fostering innovation in fish genetics, taxonomy, and bioinformatics.
The MoU signifies a progressive step in building a robust research network that will benefit students, researchers, and stakeholders involved in aquatic genetic resources and sustainable fisheries development.
