ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow through its Centre for Peninsular Aquatic Genetic Resources (PAGR) at Kochi, organised a Workshop on ‘Research trends in ornamental aquaculture: Advancements in breeding, rearing, genetics, nutrition, and health from November 1-10, 2023, sponsored under DST-SERB’sAccelerate Vigyan scheme.

Dr. U.K. Sarkar, Director of the institute, inaugurated the programme and shared insightful perspectives on the promising prospects of ornamental aquaculture in India. 25 participants (master's and PhD research scholars) hailing from 18 distinct academic institutions spanning 13 states attended the workshop, comprised of theoretical classes, practical sessions, and engaging field visits. 28 scientists and academicians from esteemed institutions across the country contributed as resource persons.

The workshop facilitated numerous productive scientific exchanges between participants and resource persons, informing them about advancements in breeding, rearing, genetics, nutrition, and health in ornamental aquaculture, providing valuable insights for their emerging research careers. The workshop culminated with a valedictory lecture delivered by Dr. M. Karthikeyan, Director, MPEDA, Kochi,highlighting the intricacies of importing and exporting ornamental fishes in India.
