ICAR-NBSS & LUP, RC Kolkata Launches LRI Cards under REWARD Project in Bhubaneswar

ICAR-National Bureau of Soil Survey & land Use Planning, Research Centre, Kolkata, developed Land Resource Inventory Cards towards site-specific crop planning for the farmers of Odisha under the REWARD Odisha Programme. Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee, Principal Secretary, Department of Agriculture & Farmers Empowerment, Government of Odisha, handed over 9,000 LRI cards in the Jujomura-1 Sub-watershed cluster, Sambalpur district, Odisha, today.

Dr. Padhee, emphasised the outcome of LRI cards towards a site-specific nutrient management plan for the state's farmers. He also urged translating the LRI cards into the Odia language for easy comprehension among the primary stakeholders.

Dr. F. H. Rahman, Head, ICAR- NBSS&LUP, highlighted the importance of LRI cards towards enhancing crop production by many-folds which ultimately will improve the livelihood of the farming community.

Dr. S.K. Khatua, Joint Director, DSC&WD, and Smt. Ankita Misra, Assistant Director, Soil Conservation, Govt. of Odisha, was also present during the launching programme of LRI Cards.

LRI cards were created at the revenue plot level using soil survey work, providing farming communities with accurate 1:8,000 scale mapping for crop planning and site-specific production enhancement.
