ICAR-National Research Institute for Integrated Pest Management, New Delhi celebrated its 37th Foundation Day here today.
The Chief Guest, Padam Bhushan Dr R. S. Paroda, Former Secretary (DARE) and Director General (ICAR), highlighted the challenges and losses faced by biotic stresses in Indian agriculture and the projections and targets to be achieved in the future.
Guest of Honour, Dr Poonam Jasrotia, Assistant Director General (PP & BS), ICAR, addressed the multiple and frequent challenges and solutions in Plant protection and biosafety and also, advised on the integration of basic collaborative research in existing programmes of the institute.
Special Guest, Dr P. K. Chakrabarty, Former Member Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board, & Former Assistant Director G (PP&BS), ICAR, spoke about the vision to develop a new roadmap for Integrated Pest Management to mitigate challenges of climate changes and sustainable plant protection.
Dr S. N. Puri, Former Vice-Chancellor, Central Agricultural University, Imphal & Former, Director, ICAR-NRIIPM, emphasized the initiatives for resilient, secondary, and digital & modern agriculture along with its integration with traditional knowledge to achieve maximum benefits.
Dr B.L. Jalali, Former Director, ICAR-NRIIPM, delivered the 1st Dr SN Puri Foundation Day Lecture themed on the Journey of Integrated Pest Management in Agriculture.
Dr Mukesh Sehgal, Director, ICAR-NRIIPM, briefed about significant research activities and achievements of the Institute since 1988 carried out for the benefit of the farming community and different stakeholders.
In the afternoon, a special technical session was conducted for farmer-scientist interaction, which was chaired by Dr HS Gaur, Former Vice-Chancellor, SVPUAT, Meerut, UP, and co-chaired by Dr Sachin S. Suroshe, PC, AICRP on Honeybees and Pollinators. In this session lectures on IPM in Rice and horticultural crops, NPSS, and Honeybees were delivered and farmers' queries were answered.
The document ‘Journey of ICAR-NRIIPM: Expedition towards Sustainable Plant Protection’ was released, highlighting the institute's efforts, achievements, and milestones, alongside an extension folder on rice IPM and other publications. Four institute halls were inaugurated, named after renowned personalities, and fruit crops were planted in the IPM Demonstration Block. Over 40 scientists from KVKs, SAUs, ICAR institutes, and AICRP showcased various IPM technologies in 15 stalls for farmers and stakeholders.
More than 70 farmers from the clusters of MGMG adopted villages from Delhi-NCR and a few NEH/TSP/ /SCSP scheme beneficiaries participated in the programme.
