The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) organized the Walkathon 2025 as part of the Fit India Movement, emphasizing the importance of physical fitness and well-being. The event saw significant participation and was aimed at promoting health and wellness across the nation.
Dr Himanshu Pathak, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR), addressed the gathering, highlighting ICAR's notable achievements in 2024 and the strides made in advancing agricultural research and development. He emphasized ICAR’s continuous commitment to enhancing farm productivity and sustainability. Agriculture stands as the backbone of our nation, with 40-45% of Indians relying on it for their livelihood. This vital sector will continue to support millions in the next 25 years. To ensure its sustainability, we must remain committed to meeting the evolving needs of our farmers, providing them with unwavering support and the resources required to thrive, especially in rural communities, he added. Dr Pathak further accentuated that true transformation in agriculture can only be achieved through reforms in agricultural research, education, and extension.
Shri Sanjay Garg, Additional Secretary (DARE) & Secretary (ICAR), spoke about the efforts to promote the best agricultural practices, contributing to the country’s agrarian progress. He emphasized ICAR's role in shaping the future of agriculture both in India and on the global stage, reinforcing its commitment to excellence.
Ms Alka Nangia Arora, Additional Secretary (DARE) & Financial Advisor (ICAR), lauded the ongoing efforts of ICAR institutes, particularly the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), for their constant innovations and recognition in agricultural research.
Dr Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-IARI, also briefed about the institute’s recent achievements and ongoing initiatives aimed at advancing agricultural science and technology.
ICAR Telephone Directory 2025 developed and published by ICAR-Directorate of Knowledge Management in Agriculture was also released during the programme.
The DDGs, ADGs, and the Directors of Delhi-based ICAR Institutes also graced the occasion.
The Walkathon served as a reminder of the importance of maintaining physical health while also highlighting ICAR's continuous role in shaping India's agricultural future.
