The inaugural session of the ICAR-sponsored Winter School on ‘Optimizing Natural Resources through New Age Technologies for Smart Agriculture’ was organised today at the ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute's Assam campus, Gogamukh, Dhemaji, Assam. The training aimed at equipping participants with advanced knowledge and skills to address the challenges of modern agriculture.
The Chief Guest, Dr R.N. Padaria, Joint Director (Extension), ICAR-IARI, underscored the importance of natural resource management in addressing agricultural challenges. He highlighted the need for innovation, technology adoption, and location-specific solutions to empower farmers. Dr Padaria also urged establishing informal information-sharing networks and research collaborations to enhance the impact of agricultural research. Additionally, he emphasized the potential for partnerships with other organizations to scale up efforts and provide sustainable solutions to farmers.
The Guest of Honour, Dr D.K. Jha, Principal, Gogamukh College, spoke about the critical role of agricultural technological innovation in improving the livelihoods of farmers in the North East. He lauded ICAR-IARI, Assam, for its efforts in organizing the Winter School and emphasized the institute's pivotal role in driving agricultural research and development in the region.
Dr Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-IARI, was also present during the programme.
The Winter School aims to serve as a platform for knowledge exchange, skill enhancement, and collaborative innovation in agriculture.
The Programme was coordinated by Dr S. Manivannan, Course Director, Dr L. K. Baishya, Dr Alemwati Pongener and Dr Dibyendu Deb.
Participants from various disciplines and regions, including Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Tripura, will be attending the training programme.
