ICAR- National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad, conducted two skill development training programmes for rural women on ‘Entrepreneurship Development among Farmers & Farm Women through Fruits and Vegetables Processing’ and ‘Promotion of Integrated Farming System for Sustainable Agriculture’ from 19th-24th February 2024 under Scheduled Caste Sub Plan, 2023-24 in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra II, Sitapur, Lucknow.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Shrawan Kumar Singh, Deputy Director Agriculture, Sitapur, highlighted the production, productivity, and export potential of fruits and vegetables in India and Uttar Pradesh. He urged the women farmers to adopt different crops for higher yield, nutritional security, and improved lifestyle. Dr. Singh also encouraged the participants to develop entrepreneurial skills for better income through fruit and vegetable processing and value addition.
Dr. Sudhir Shukla, Director of Uttar Pradesh Council of Sugarcane Research, highlighted the potential of integrated farming systems to double farmers' income and address malnutrition issues in India. He also highlighted the training program's objective of providing knowledge on each component.
Dr. Shalini Visen, Director, Amity University, highlighted the need for the adoption of various integrated farming systems to boost productivity per unit area due to the intensity of crops and allied farming enterprises. Dr. Visen briefed about the government schemes and initiatives promoting IFS models and opportunities for women in agriculture.
Dr. Daya Shankar Srivastava, Head, KVK-II, Sitapur, spoke about the aspects of integrated farming systems for enhancing nutritional security, processing, and post-harvest management of different agricultural products and marketing linkages for the promotion of agricultural products through different FPOs.
Farmers were trained on fruit and vegetable production trends, entrepreneurship skills, value-added food products, household processing methods, integrated farming systems, and maintenance of horticulture and forest crop models. They also learned about value-added food products, processing methods, and maintenance of horticulture and forest crops.
During the valedictory session, important critical inputs were distributed to all the participants.
A total of 130 women farmers participated in the training programmes.
