A 21-day winter school programme on “Improving water use efficiency and productivity through advancement in micro-irrigation systems under limited water conditions” was inaugurated today at Agricultural University, Jodhpur.
The Chief Guest, Dr. S.K. Malhotra, Project Director, ICAR-Directorate of Knowledge Management in Agriculture and Former Agricultural and Horticultural Commissioner, stated that 9.0 million hectares area has been covered for micro-irrigation under the PMKSY scheme so far. Dr. Malhotra further added that the Indian Council of Agricultural Research has completed the scheduling of micro-irrigation in 26 crops through the National Agricultural Research System. He acknowledged AU, Jodhpur, for introducing new crops to promote agricultural diversification and developing new varieties and technologies in grain amaranth, chia, asalio, quinoa, chamomile and chicory for adoption at national level.
Dr. B.R Choudhary, Vice Chancellor, Agricultural University, Jodhpur, spoke about the scope of micro-irrigation systems in the arid, semi-arid eco-system for improving water use efficiency.
A total of 25 participants from seven states including Jammu-Kashmir, West Bengal, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Delhi will participate in the 21-days course.
