ICAR-Central Citrus Research Institute, Nagpur, in association with Indian Society of Citriculture (ISC) 2023; Asia-Pacific Association of Agricultural Research Institutions, Thailand and Korean Society for Citrus and Subtropical Climate Fruits, South Korea organised the Asian Citrus Congress-2023 on the theme “Advancing Citriculture for Agro-economic Prosperity” in Nagpur from 28th to 30th October 2023.
Shri Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, inaugurated Congress as Chief Guest. He lauded the work of ICAR-CCRI in producing disease-free citrus planting material.
Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary (DARE) and Director General (ICAR) in his video message, applauded the 3-day exchange of knowledge in Nagpur.
Dr. T.R Sharma, Deputy Director General (Horticulture), ICAR, Prof. C.D. Mayee, Prof. Michael Rogers (University of Florida, USA), Prof. Kwan Jeong Song (Jeju National University, Republic of Korea), Prof. Dong Soon Kim (President, Korean Society of Citrus and Subtropical Climate Fruits) were also present in the inaugural programme.
Dr. Dilip Ghosh, Convenor of Asian Citrus Congress-2023, Director, ICAR-Central Citrus Research Institute and President Indian Society of Citriculture, urged to come together to address the concerns of citrus industry of Asia. He mphasized the exchange of scientific knowledge, ideas, experiences and even changes in policy level and academic collaborations to strengthen Indian and ultimately the Asian citrus industry.
During the inaugural programme Fellowship of ISC and Honorary Fellowship of ISC were conferred to citrus experts by recognizing their outstanding contribution in the advancement of citriculture. The Souvenir of ACC-2023, a book titled “Citrus Diversity of India” and the second issue of “India Citriculture” e-magazine were released by the dignitaries.
Over 300 delegates from 16 countries across the world attended the “Asian Citrus Congress-2023”. A field trip was arranged for the delegates to the Green Valley Limited, a commercial citrus farm of Mr. Akhil Junghare, a progressive citrus grower of Hatla, Katol taluka, Nagpur.
