In a significant step toward sustainable waste management and environmental responsibility, the ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Kochi, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with HEAL Ponnuruni, a society committed to building a waste-free community.
The event was held today at ICAR-CIFT in the esteemed presence of the Mayor of Cochin, Adv. M. Anil Kumar.

During the occasion, Dr. George Ninan, Director, ICAR-CIFT, briefed about the activities of ICAR-CIFT and highlighted the technologies developed under Swatchhta Action Plan.
This collaboration is part of ICAR-CIFT’s ongoing Swachhata Action Plan, specifically under the sub-project titled “Effective Management of Biodegradable Waste.” Recognizing the urgent need for efficient biodegradable waste management, ICAR-CIFT has developed an innovative microbial consortium that significantly accelerates the composting of food waste. As part of the MoU, this microbial technology provided to HEAL Ponnuruni for field-level trials in community settings.
