Semen collection and artificial insemination (AI) are essential tools in modern rabbit farming and research, significantly contributing to genetic improvement, disease prevention, and overall reproductive efficiency. Recognizing the need for a simple and cost-effective solution, ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Sri Vijaypuram has been granted a design patent (No. 440867-001) for the “Rabbit Semen Collector.”
This innovative device is designed to be handmade using minimal raw materials that are easily available in the market. Its simple design allows for easy assembly and operation, requiring only a basic level of technical expertise. By eliminating the need for expensive commercial equipment, this semen collector provides a practical and accessible solution for rabbit breeders and researchers, particularly in regions where advanced reproductive technologies are not readily available.
The patented Rabbit Semen Collector not only facilitates efficient semen collection but also supports the widespread adoption of AI in rabbit farming. This advancement can help improve breeding programs, maintain genetic diversity, and enhance overall productivity, making it a valuable tool for both small-scale and large-scale rabbit farms.
