ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (NBFGR), Luknow and the University of Kalyani have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance collaborative research and academic exchange in fish genetic resources and conservation.
A key feature of the partnership is the joint establishment and management of 'Abhay Pukur' fish sanctuaries to protect threatened indigenous species and promote biodiversity. The MoU also enables ICAR-NBFGR scientists to serve as Ph.D. supervisors, with students completing mandatory coursework at NBFGR to ensure academic rigor.

The collaboration extends to joint research in biotechnology, bioinformatics, aquatic ecosystem management, and cryopreservation. It also supports interdisciplinary learning through faculty development, workshops, and academic exchange programs.
The partnership aims to strengthen research infrastructure and drive innovations in sustainable fisheries and aquatic genetic conservation.
