An interactive meeting on sustainable water management was organised today at ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kolkata. The meeting emphasized the joint vision of ICAR and IWMI to tackle key challenges in agriculture and water management, promoting innovation and sustainability for a resilient future.
Dr Alok K. Sikka, Country Representative – India and Bangladesh, International Water Management Institute (IWMI), outlined the work plan for the ICAR-IWMI research partnership. He focused on improving water productivity in agriculture, managing water-related disaster risks, and capacity building. Dr Sikka emphasized the importance of collaboration to promote sustainable water management practices and drive transformative research in agriculture and water systems.
Dr. Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata, shared valuable insights into the diverse agro-ecologies of Zone-V and the significant achievements of the KVKs. He stressed the importance of fortifying agricultural and livestock systems against climate change and highlighted ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata's pivotal role in transforming KVKs into pillars of resilience and innovation.
The programme was coordinated by Dr P.P. Pal and Dr S.K. Mondal, Principal Scientists of the Institute.
