An all-day interactive discussion and brainstorming session was hosted by the ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology in Kolkata. Dr. Nawab Ali, a former DDG (AE) for the ICAR and the head of the Quinquennial Review Team (QRT), presided over the program. Participants in this interactive session included Dr. S. Sreenivasan, former director of ICAR-CIRCOT in Mumbai, Dr. D. Nag, former director of ICAR-NINFET in Kolkata, Prof. Dr. T. R. Srikrishnan, professor of bio-chemical engineering and biotechnology at IIT Delhi, and Prof. Dr. A. K. Samanta, professor of jute and fiber technology at Calcutta University.
Dr. Nawab Ali, Chairman, emphasized that more and more joint research projects should be established. Through the stakeholders, Dr. D.B. Shakwayawar, Director of ICAR-NINFET, introduces the NINFET technology to the nation. He also focused on strengthening the linkage between public private partnerships.
Members of the QRT talked about NINFET technology, the export of jute goods, the future of jute, and the possibility to eliminate plastic. Different policy-related issues relating to geotextile, the composites industry, diversified jute products, model retting and water recycling, and mechanization of the retting process were explored.
Three MoUs are signed between M/S Bhowmick Calculator, NIFT, Kolkata and M/S Kalpana Industries in this occasion. More than forty delegations from the West Bengal government's various governmental departments, ICAR institutes, corporate organizations, jute mills, industries, private businesses, the HoD, and scientists from this institute took part in the program.
