A meeting was organized at ICAR-National Research Centre for Orchids, Sikkim with the Chairman of Mahyco Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai and the Director, Seven Stars Fruits Pvt. Ltd. today. The aim of the meeting was to discuss a prospective future for commercial-level orchid cultivation, and propagation, and opening up a new window for monetization of orchid genetic resources. on the monetization of Orchid Genetic Resources.
Dr. S. P. Das, Director, ICAR-NRCO briefed about the institutional research and developmental activities and aim for a push towards a viable production cum marketing platform for priced orchids in India. He also emphasized public-private partnership (PPP) mode to achieve the desired goal of NRCO.
Shri. Rajendra Barwale, Chairman of Mahyco Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai emphasised on prospects of viable commerce associated with orchids and the scope for monetization of orchid resources of India. He also mentioned about the relevance of research planning targeted for a product for commerce.
Dr. Chaporkar, Director, Seven Stars Fruits Pvt. Ltd. spoke about the relevance of PPP and its catalytic elements for making the orchid venture successful.
