An Interface meet was organised by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam with the district-level Agriculture and Horticulture officers, Govt. of Meghalaya, today at MAMETI , Upper Shillong.
The Chief Guest, Smt. J. C Lyngdoh, Director Agriculture, Govt. of Meghalaya, strongly exhorted for collaboration between ICAR and the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare which will help to reshape the farming system of the State which can bring overall growth and development for the farming community. She urged to look into the disease aspect in tomatoes and potato which the farmers of the State are facing regularly. Referring to the problem in the harvesting of potatoes, she stressed that ICAR will very soon come up with a farm tool for harvesting of potatoes to reduce the drudgery among the farmers.
Shri. W Syiemleh Joint Director (Research & Training), Govt. of Meghalaya expressed that such an interface meet is essential for the collaboration between ICAR and the State Government to work for the benefit of the farmers of Meghalaya. He said the state machinery can perform well, in taking the research output to the farmers' field and giving feedback to the scientist.
Dr. B. P Singh, Head, DTAC,ICAR, Umiam briefed the objectives of Interface Meet, along with the agricultural technologies of ICAR complex..
Various problems of the farmers were discussed by the state government officers for the appropriate solutions for the improvement of agriculture to augment the farmers’ income and employment in agriculture.
