The ICAR-Central Plantation Crops Research Institute, Kasaragod, Kerala hosted an “International Coconut Tissue Culture Workshop” from 16th to 20th May, 2022.

Inaugurating the Workshop, Dr. Anand Kumar Singh, Deputy Director General (Horticulture Science), ICAR highlighted the achievements made in the Indian Horticultural Sector. Dr. Singh stressed on the need for an international collaborative network research programme under the aegis of the International Coconut Community (ICC), Jakarta to improve the success of the Coconut Tissue Culture.

Dr. Jelfina C. Alouw, Executive Director, ICC underlined the overview of the Workshop.
Smt. Erlene Manohar, Coordinator, Coconut Genetic Resources Network (COGENT) gave the presentation on “Coconut Conservation Strategy”.


Earlier, Dr. Anitha Karun, Director, ICAR-CPCRI, Kasargod delivered the Keynote Address on “Research Achievements in Biotechnology at ICAR-CPCRI”.
The main objectives of the Workshop were sharing the acquired expertise and skills among the researchers working on Coconut Tissue Culture Programmes in the Member Countries of COGENT and formulating the experiments to develop a commercially viable Tissue Culture Protocol in Coconut.
The Workshop was organized in collaboration with the ICC, COGENT, Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) and Coconut Development Board (CDB), Kochi, Kerala.
