International Training on Genome Editing concludes

A week-long International training (3rd – 7th February 2025) on Genome Editing in Plants-Advance tools and techniques was jointly organized by ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi in collaboration with Innovative Genomics Institute, University of California Berkeley, USA.

 

The first training programme was inaugurated on 3rd February 2025, by Dr D.K. Yadava, Assistant Director General (Seed), ICAR. 

Dr Brad Ringeisen, IGI Executive Director, IGI, graced as the chief guest for the valedictory session of the 1st training programme on 7th February 2025 whereas Dr Prof. Venkatesan Sundaresan, UCB, and Dr Srivalli Krishnan, Senior Program Manager, Gates Foundation were the guest of honors. 

 

The valedictory session of the 2nd training was graced by the chief guest, Dr Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director & Vice-Chancellor, ICAR-IARI on 14th February 2025, and Dr Carlotta Ronda, Principal Investigator, IGI, and Dr Srivalli Krishnan, Senior Program Manager, Gates Foundation, as the guest of honors.

Dr Rao urged the students to utilize the power of genome technology to enhance climate resilience and productivity in oil seeds and pulses, minimization of post-harvest losses, and enhancement of shelf-life of horticultural crops. 

The training was funded by ICAR-EFC Sub-scheme on ‘Enhancing climate resilience and ensuring food security with genome editing tool’.

A total of 54 scientists, students, and research scholars from 22 different Institutes across the country attended the training.
