ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture organized a Kisan Mela at ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hayathnagar Research Farm, focused on Targeting Technology to Agro-Ecological Zones for Large-Scale Demonstrations of Best Practices to Enhance Cotton Productivity. The Kisan Mela aimed to enhance farmers' knowledge of various aspects of cotton farming, including High-Density Planting System (HDPS), pest and disease management, water conservation, and the role of mechanization, such as the use of pneumatic planters and kapas picking techniques.
The event highlighted the ongoing HDPS (High-Density Planting System) project by the ICAR-Central Institute for Cotton Research (CICR) in Nagpur, designed to boost cotton production in India. The project focuses on increasing productivity, reducing input costs, and improving sustainability and resilience in cotton farming under diverse conditions.
The Chief Guest, Dr Shaik N. Meera, Director, ICAR-ATARI-X, Hyderabad, praised the efforts of the KVK Ranga Reddy District in improving crop productivity, reducing cultivation costs, and promoting sustainable farming practices. He encouraged farmers to continue following the best practices for higher yields.
Shri B. Narasimha Rao, District Agriculture Officer, Ranga Reddy, commended the farmers for achieving high yields and encouraged the exchange of success stories among farmers.
Dr S. K. Bal, I/C Director, ICAR-CRIDA, stressed the importance of following project guidelines such as timely sowing, proper pesticide usage, and irrigation to address challenges faced under varied conditions.
The Kisan Mela concluded with the release of publications, followed by the felicitation of successful farmers who had adopted the HDPS method.
The event saw active participation from 425 farmers from Ranga Reddy District.
