Livelihood Improvement Workshop under SCSP

Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary (DARE) and Director General (ICAR) inaugurated the launching Workshop of SCSP funded Livelihood Improvement Project today, which was jointly organised by KVK Bankura, ICAR-IIAB, Ranchi, ICAR-NBFGR, Lucknow, West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences, Belgachia and ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata.

Dr. Pathak accentuated the insightful perspectives on strategic measures undertaken to elevate the research and development landscape in different remote places by ICAR. He applauded the accomplishments of KVK and its pivotal role in advancing agricultural practices. Dr. Pathak felicitated Swami Swami Madhabananda Saraswati, Secretary of the Dalpur Sree Sree Gyanananda Saraswati Ashram, a group supported by the Bankura KVK. Also, representatives of the KVK-supported FPOs/FPCs were also felicitated.

Prof. S.S. Dana, Vice Chancellor, WBUAFS, Belgachia emphasised the scope of fishery-based entrepreneurship development in the region.

Prof. Goutam Saha, Vice Chancellor, BCKV, Mohanpur, Nadia, praised the role of ICAR in improving the income of the farming community.

Dr. Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata said this kind of multi-stakeholder and multi-institutional aggregation aims to advance the findings about the enhancement of livelihoods in the country's plateau regions, promoting entrepreneurship in rural areas and transforming young people from job searchers into employment providers.

Dr. Uttam Kumar Sarkar, Director, ICAR-NBFGR, Lucknow emphasised the importance of the fisheries sector in the region.

Dr. Sujoy Rakshit, Director, ICAR-IIAB, Ranchi and Dr. T. Damodaran, Director, ICAR-CISH, Lucknow also spoke on the occasion.

An exhibition was also organised where various technologies which are being disseminated by the ICAR-KVK, Bankura and produce and products of FPCs/FPOs were displayed.

Approximately 450 farmers, and representatives of FPOs/FPCs gathered in the Workshop.
