The National Security Guard (NSG), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt of India, in collaboration with ICAR-Indian Institute of Millets Research, organized ‘Millet Mela’ at NSG Hyderabad Regional Hub, Ibrahimpatnam. The event aimed to create awareness among NSG personnel and their family members about the health and nutritional benefits of millet.
The Millet Mela was inaugurated by Dr C Tara Satyavathi, Director, ICAR-IIMR. He emphasized the importance of incorporating millets into our daily diets for better health, highlighting the nutritional value of millets. Dr Tara Satyavathi urged all attendees to make these Nutri cereal grains as a part of their routine meals.
The experts interacted with attendees, explaining the significance of millets in addressing malnutrition, improving gut health, and enhancing dietary diversity. They also highlighted the contribution of FPOs promoted by ICAR-IIMR in advancing millet cultivation, value addition, and market accessibility.
Family members of NSG personnel actively participated in the event by preparing and sharing a variety of millet-based dishes, including Ragi porridge, Sorghum kichadi, Millet idli, and Jowar roti among others.
The Millet Mela served as an excellent platform for raising awareness about millets’ role in promoting health, sustainability, and food security. It also highlights the importance of community participation in making dietary changes.
The event was coordinated by Dr Sangappa, Shri Abbuseat, and Shri Shiva from ICAR-IIMR.
Around 250 people participated in the event.
