Interface Meet 2023 “Interfaces in Science-Technology-Society for a Sustainable Orchid Production-Commercialization and Resilient Economy” and Farmers Meet, “Perceiving Orchid Based Livelihood and Resilient Economy” organized at the campus of ICAR- National Research Centre for Orchids, Pakyong, Sikkim on 09th of August, 2023.
Minister of Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Department, Govt. of Sikkim, Shri Lok Nath Sharma, chief guest conveyed his appreciation on the prospect of organizing such interface meet and stressed on research and developmental perspective in production of suitable orchid varieties followed with validation in the farmer’s field. He also appreciated the work of the scientists regarding evaluation of medicinal properties of a few orchid species.
All the Special Guests and Guest of Honor like Mr. Jigme Dorjee Bhutia, IAS, Secretary, Agriculture Department; Mr. Tashi Chophel, District Collector, Pakyong expressed their valuable viewpoint. Dr. Lakshmi Kant, Director, ICAR-VPKAS, Almora delivered a talk. The officials of Sikkim Government in presence of Zilla Adhakshya also participated and expressed their views.
At the beginning, in his welcome address, Dr. S.P. Das, Director of ICAR-NRCO, highlighted the journey of more than 25 years by ICAR-NRCO and its substantial contributions over time. In a presentation, Dr. Das outlined the pivotal objectives of the centre including the institute's road map to achieve the same.
Dr. Dipankar Saha, Organizing Secretary of the meet coordinated these events and expressed views and vote of thanks.
