National Science day, with the theme, “Global Science for Global Well-being”, was organized at ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture, Hyderabad today. As a part of National Science Day celebrations, an elocution and quiz competitions were held. The topic for the elocution was “Global Science for Global Wellbeing which the emphasized the need for scientific research to benefit mankind at large. A quiz programme was also held wherein about 40 participants comprising of staff members and students participated.
Dr. Shaik N. Meera, Director, ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Zone-X and Dr V K Singh Director ICAR-CRIDA graced the closing ceremony.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Shaik N Meera, in his address spoke on the variety of new digital apps and techniques available for experimentation in agriculture, such as drones and artificial intelligence. He stressed on the need to explore the use of these contemporary
technologies in traditional farming, to find innovative uses, while at the same time, keeping the small-scale farmer in mind. He said that through more intensive research, India can rise to become a world leader in agricultural productivity.
Dr Vinod Kumar Singh, Director, ICAR-CRIDA in his address stressed the importance of science in daily life while recounting anecdotes from the life of Sir C.V. Raman. He asked the students to focus on sustainable agriculture that can have an impact on generations to come.
