ICAR-Directorate of Floricultural Research, Pune is organised a two-day National Symposium on “Floriculture Nurtures Pollinators: Flower Crops for Healthy Pollinators and Value-Added Bee Products” from 23-24th March, 2023 on virtual mode to commemorate Azadi Ka Amrut mahotsav.
The Chief Guest, Dr. A.K. Singh, Vice Chancellor, Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture & Technology (CSAUA&T) & Former Deputy Director General (Horticultural Science), ICAR in his inaugural address emphasized the importance of floriculture and pollinators in enhancing the sustainable crop productivity amidst climatic change induced challenges and Millennium Development Goals. On this occasion, Dr. Singh launched ‘Pollinators on Flower Crops: A Database’ developed by the institute and congratulated the Institute for the development of very useful and unique database.
Dr. K.V. Prasad, Director, ICAR-Directorate of Floricultural Research, Pune has briefed about the importance of floriculture in maintaining the pollinators and concomitantly the ecosystem. He also highlighted the work being carried out by ICAR-DFR in this direction.
Dr. S. C. Dubey, ADG (Plant Protection & Biosafety), ICAR, New Delhi, Dr. Sachin Suroshe, Project Co-ordinator, AICRP on Honeybees & Pollinators, New Delhi and Dr. Naveen Kumar Patle, Addl. Commissioner (Horticulture) & Executive Director, National Bee Board, New Delhi were the Guests of Honour.
The Symposium has twelve presentations delivered by renowned experts including two experts from USA. Over 339 participants from academia, farmers, industry, and ministry attended the symposium and benefitted from topical lectures delivered by distinguished experts.
