The ICAR-Indian Institute of Natural Resins and Gums, Ranchi, Jharkhand and the Society for Advancement of Natural Resins and Gums jointly organized the National Web Symposium on “Recent Advances in Beneficial Insects, Natural Resins and Gums” from 25th to 26th February, 2021.
The Symposium was organized in association with the Indian Journal of Entomology, All India Coordinated Research Project on Honeybees and Pollinators and Dr. B. Vasantharaj David Foundation.
Outlining the existence of vast scope for research and development in beneficial insects and Natural Resins & Gums, especially, lac, the Chief Guest, Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) emphasized on the importance of beneficial insects in agriculture. He urged the scientists to take-up the studies on Biosystematics, Host-Parasite Interaction in nature, evolution, epigenomics and the impact of technologies disseminated among the stakeholders.


The Guest of Honor, Dr. Tilak Raj Sharma, Deputy Director General (Crop Science), ICAR briefed about the uniqueness of insect genomes and the scope and challenges in studying the insect resistance in crop plants. He also underlined the importance of collaboration in THE agricultural sector comprising of beneficial insects and Natural Resins & Gums.
The Guest of Honor, Dr. K.K. Singh, ADG (Farm Engineering), ICAR stressed on the significance and scope of value-addition of Natural Resins & Gums and mechanization of their cultivation.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. K.K. Sharma, Director, ICAR-IINRG, Ranchi, Jharkhand & President (SANRAG) apprised the participants about the Institute’s role and achievements.
Dr. A. Mohanasundaram, Organizing Secretary of the Symposium briefed about the Symposium.
The SANRAG Awards were conferred to the various scientists and entrepreneurs for their excellence in the sphere of work during the occasion.
A Mobile App “Lakh ka Doctor” was also unveiled to the public in the august presence of the dignitaries on the occasion.
