NEH collaborating partners’ review meeting-cum-workshop organised by ICAR-NBFGR at Gauhati University, Assam

A review meeting-cum-workshop of the "Programme on Fish Germplasm Exploration, Characterization and Development of Live Fish Germplasm Resource Centres in North-Eastern region of India" was organized by ICAR - National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow at Gauhati University, Assam, today.

The Chief Guest, Prof (Dr) Pratap Jyoti Handique, Vice Chancellor, Gauhati University, appreciated ICAR-NBFGR’s efforts and opined that inter-institutional and inter-disciplinary collaboration is essential to documenting the rich diversity of the NEH region, an enigmatic biodiverse hotspot of India.

Dr. U. K. Sarkar, Director, ICAR-NBFGR briefed about ICAR-NBFGR’s transformative efforts in collaboration with NEH partners to conserve, develop and manage aquatic genetic resources. He urged the partners to have a systematic approach toward the documentation of fish diversity in the NEH region, including the caves of Meghalaya.

Dr. B. K. Bhattacharjya, Principal Scientist & HoRC (In-Charge), Guwahati Regional Centre, ICAR-CIFRI and Shri Apurba Kumar Das, Joint Director, Director of Fisheries, Assam, also attended the meeting to provide their inputs as invited experts.  

Detailed discussion on the ongoing activities, achievements, and outputs of 11 collaborating partners of the NEH component was held in addition to planning future efforts for the inclusion of beneficiary-oriented input supplies.

The meeting was attended by all the collaborating partners of ICAR-NBFGR from various institutes in the NE region and a team of ICAR-NBFGR scientists.

The meeting-cum-workshop was attended by 30 participants, including students from Gauhati University.
