ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad organised an online Training Programme on “Next Generation Sequencing and Data Analysis” (NGS) from 16th to 20th October, 2023 concluded today.
The programme provided the participants with an insight into the enormous potential and application of NGS. The participants were provided with theory and hands-on practical sessions on various bioinformatics software and tools such as Linux, Python, R related to the emerging requirements of NGS during virtual training. The programme laid the foundation and equipped the participants with the necessary skills to analyze NGS data independently.
Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-NAARM, Hyderabad, emphasised the importance of bioinformatics for undertaking frontier research in NGS such as transcriptomics, proteomics, genomics and metabolomics called upon the participants to undertake innovative and collaborative research to improve agricultural productivity.
Dr. G. Venkateshwarlu, Joint Director, ICAR-NAARM, emphasised on the significance of collaboration and the energy that arises from synergy. He encouraged participants to work together across disciplines and institutions to unlock the full potential of NGS technologies. Dr. Venkateshwarlu envisaged the setting up of cloud servers at NAARM to empower researchers and scientists regardless of their backgrounds or locations to contribute to cutting-edge research and innovation.
A total of 97 participants including 40 women participants representing 27 research disciplines from 36 ICAR Institutions, 14 Agricultural Universities and 3 private organizations participated in the programme.
