The 10-day long Virtual International Training Programme on “Regional capacity building on biotechnological tools in aquatic genetic resource management and ex-situ conservation” for Asia-Pacific countries’ organized by the ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh and Asia Pacific Associations of Agricultural Research Institutions (APAARI), Bangkok, Thailand from 7th to 18th December, 2020 concluded today.
In his valedictory address, Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) assured the APAARI for better coordination from the ICAR regarding the capacity building initiates of APAARI for Asia-Pacific Region. The Director General also felicitated the participants with the certificates.
Dr. Joykrushna Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries Science), ICAR; Dr. Matthias Halwart, Head, Aquaculture Division, FAO, Rome; Dr. Ravi Khetarpal, Executive Secretary, APAARI; Dr. Rishi Kumar Tyagi, Coordinator, APCoAB, APAARI and Dr. A.G. Ponniah, Former Director, ICAR-NBFGR, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh & ICAR-CIBA, Chennai and Directors of ICAR-CIBA and ICAR-DCFR also virtually participated .
The collaboration was in the mission to achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (especially, SDG-17 on Partnerships for the Goal).
The programme was aimed at enhancing the skill of researchers working in aquaculture production and fisheries sectors.
Around 11 countries have nominated 22 Women participants working in the fisheries sector and, thus, extending help for the mission of women empowerment and also achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG-5: as Gender Equality and SDG-4: Quality Education).
A total of 35 participants from 14 countries (from Asia & Pacific Region including India) virtually participated in the programme.
