The ICAR-Indian Soybean Research Institute, Indore, Madhya Pradesh organized the Farmers’ Seminar on “Organic Soybean Production” here today. The Seminar was organized in association with Solidaridad and ITC Limited on the Theme - “Organic Soybean Production”
Dr. Om Prakash Joshi, Former Principal Scientist, ICAR-IISR, Indore regarded the time of the first 3 Years as very important for the Organic Farming in which the use of any kind of chemicals is prohibited. He also opined that along with organic farming in the favorable areas, the practice of integrated farming / use of minimum chemicals should also be practiced so that food security can be ensured continuously for the population of the country.

In his Lecture on “Management of insect pest in Organic Soybean Production”, Dr. Amar Nath Sharma, Renowned Entomologist underlined the usage of pesticides by the farmers in an unnecessary and arbitrary manner. He outlined the other Insects control measures like spraying of organic insecticides, insecticides of botanical origin like extracts of plant like Acacia, Dhatura and Custard Apple extracts that have been found to be effective.
Dr. Neeta Khandekar, Director, ICAR-IISR, Indore stated that the Institute is moving towards increasing the production by making more farmers aware about the latest methods for Soybean Crop.
The Seminar organized under the Annadata Devo Bhav Abhiyan as a part of the “Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav” to commemorate 75 Years of India’s Independence registered participation by about 750 Soya Farmers and Women associated with Indian Soybean Research Institute; Solidaridad, Bhopal and ITC Limited.
