To celebrate the “World Earth Day - 2022”, the ICAR-National Research Centre on Camel, Bikaner, Rajasthan organized an Interactive Meet on “Sustenance of Camel related Tourism and its Future Prospects” today.

Integrating Camel Eco-tourism with Rural Culture and Tradition

Dr. Navina Jafa, Tourism Advisor, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, New Delhi stressed on the need for making the efforts at the grassroot levels to promote Camel Tourism that can attract more Indian vis-a-vis Foreign Tourists. The importance of integrating the rural art and culture with the involvement of Camel Pastoralists in the development of Eco-Tourism was also highlighted by Dr. Jafa.

Smt. Shailja Kathuria, Tourism Advisor, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, New Delhi also highlighted challenges in Camel Tourism Development.

Dr. Artabandhu Sahoo, Director, ICAR-NRC on Camel, Bikaner emphasized on promoting the Rural Camel Eco-Tourism. This, he accentuated, is possible by the integration of the traditional and cultural heritage and driving the tourists to the “Oran” for sustainable Camel Husbandry and protection of fauna and flora.

The Progressive Camel Farmers - Shri Jagmal Singh Raika, Shri Motilal Kumawat and Shri Joraram underlined the various issues related to the Camel-based livelihood in the face of declining utility as draft animal and renewed challenges in the face of promoting it as a dairy animal.

The main objective of the Meet was to promote the Camel Eco-Tourism through the integration of rural tradition & culture involving the Pastoralist community.

The Advisors, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, New Delhi; Progressive Camel Farmers of Rajasthan; Young Entrepreneurs associated with Camel Tourism and Scientists from ICAR-NRC on Camel attended the Meet.
