The ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture, Chennai signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Coastal Corporation Ltd. (CCL), Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh today.
In his address, Dr. K.P. Jithendran, Director, ICAR-CIBA, Chennai highlighted the importance of SPF polychaete worms to the Indian Shrimp Industry and the potential of such technologies in ensuring the disease-free shrimp seed production. The Institute’s scientific strength in Polychaete Production Technology was outlined by Dr. Jithendran.
Shri V.R. Sharma, Vice-President, CCL, Visakhapatnam underlined the demand for SPF polychaete worms to the Indian Shrimp Industry.
As per the collaboration, the CCL will invest on infrastructure for holding the domestication and mass scale production of the selected species while the ICAR-CIBA will facilitate the research and development for quality production of the sandworms.
The MoU aims at extending the Consultancy Services for the Breeding and Production of SPF polychaete worms (Perinereis spp), the maturation diet for shrimp broodstock in hatcheries.
