ICAR-CRIJAF, Barrackpore celebrates its 69th Foundation Day

The ICAR-Central Research Institute for Jute and Allied Fibres, Barrackpore, Kolkata celebrated its 69th Foundation Day today.

The Chief Guest, Dr. Tilak Raj Sharma, Deputy Director General (Crop Science), ICAR appreciated the Institute’s new initiatives taken for awarding and acknowledging the farmers and master trainers. The DDG also acknowledged the Institute’s technologies like ICAR-CRIJAF SONA for upscaling the fibre quality & enhancing the farmers’ income. Dr. Sharma said that the Programmes initiated for the pre-breeding of Jute and Allied Fibres will be highly useful to enhance fibre quality, yield and disease-pest resistance instances.

The Guest Speaker, Prof. Swapan Kumar Datta, Vice-Chancellor, Biswa Bangla University & Former Deputy Director General (Crop Science), ICAR delivered the Foundation Day Lecture on “Latest Application of Cutting Edge Science in Crop Improvement Programme”.

The Guest of Honor, Shri M.C. Chakraborty, Jute Commissioner, Government of India applauded the Institute’s role in making the Jute sector more vibrant. He stated that the Institute’s technologies can fulfill the requirement of the export promotion in the future.

The Guest of Honor, Shri A.K. Jolly, Managing Director, Jute Corporation of India emphasized that in the coming Years also the joint efforts of JCI and ICAR-CRIJAF will continue to promote the Institute’s technologies through the Jute-ICARE Programme among the farmers.

The Guest of Honor, Dr. B.K. Das, Director, ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore, Kolkata appreciated the Institute’s strong linkage with the farmers.

The Guest of Honor, Dr. D.B. Shakywar, Director, ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology, Kolkata emphasized on the complementary role of ICAR-CRIJAF and ICAR-NINFET for the betterment of the Jute sector. 

Earlier, welcoming the dignitaries, Dr. Gouranga Kar, Director, ICAR-CRIJAF, Barrakpore briefed about the Institute’s major achievements, varieties and technologies developed for resolving the bottlenecks and problems faced by the farmers in the cultivation of Jute and Allied Fibre Crops.

More than 200 participants from the various ICAR Institutes, Entrepreneurs, Master Trainers and Progressive Farmers, etc., participated in the event.
