ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore conducted a “Training-cum- Mass-Awareness programme for Utilization of derelict open water to rear and produce indigenous fish for socio economic development of Tribal community” at Sagar Island during 16-18 September 2016.
Institute has initiated a programme for empowerment of rural tribal through sustainable fisheries and utilization of open water bodies for livelihood security in village Khan Saheber Abad and Khas Ramkarer Charare, tribal dominated villages located in Sagar Island of South 24 Parganas district, West Bengal.
Beneficiaries were sensitized and trained for fish culture in unutilized water bodies.
On 17th September 12 Cast nets, 2 Drag nets, nets and rope for fencing the water bodies & one 5 HP water pump were distributed to the beneficiaries.
A total of 250 farmers including 150 tribal women farmers participated in the training programme.
