ICAR-Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture, Srinagar and Horticulture Society of India, New Delhi jointly organizied a “National Conference on Temperate Fruits and Nuts- A Way Forward for Enhancing Productivity and Quality” from November 06-09, 2015 at ICAR-CITH, Old Air Field, Rangreth, Srinagar.
Jenab Ab. Rehman Veeri, Minister of Horticulture, Haj and Auqa, J&K State, Chief Guest of the event emphasized on the role of scientific interaction for betterment of the horticultural industry. He pointed out the importance of introduction of high yielding and better quality varieties for enhancing productivity and quality. The Minister advised scientists to work on pollination strategies, gardening and parking system, cold storage etc.
Jenab Syed M.A. Bukhari, Minister of Public Works, Floriculture, Parks and Gardens, J&K State emphasized on reshaping the sector for enhancing productivity and quality of apple.
Dr. N. K. Krishna Kumar, DDG (HS), ICAR, talked about silent revolution done by horticulture and its major contribution in nutritional security.
Dr. Asgar Samoon, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Division stressed on the need of future strategies with technological backup for fruitful outcome in this industry.
Earlier, Dr. K. L. Chadha, Chairman National organizing committee and President of Horticulture Society of India in his introductory remarks stated about status of temperate fruits and nuts industry, R&D infrastructure, strategies for crop improvement, adoption of root stock etc.
Vice Chancellors, Directors and delegates from different temperate horticulture states of India participated in the workshop.
