ICAR-CIFT Visakhapatnam Research Centre conducted a three day Training cum Demonstration Programme under Tribal Sub Plan at Motihari, District Purvachamparan, Bihar during 24-26 June, 2015.
Shri Nishat Ahmad, Director, Department of Fisheries, Government of Bihar. In his inaugural address lauded the efforts made by ICAR-CIFT in the form of different training cum demonstration programmes that are extremely beneficial for the development of fisheries sector in Bihar. He stressed on the need for better post harvest handling of fish that is not only safe for human consumption but also fetches better price for the primary producer auguring improved socio-economic conditions.
The facilities are established to help sustainable growth of fisheries in Motihari and also for promotion and development of entrepreneurial skills among the fishers.
Dr. M.M. Prasad, Principal Scientist with the team Shri A.K. Panigrahi, STO, Shri D. Rout, TO and Shri G. Bhushanam, Technician conducted the programme in collaboration with Department of Fisheries, Government of Bihar, Motihari and the staff included Shri Vinay Kumar, DFO, Shri Harendra Prasad, Junior Engineer, Shri Davinder Singh Accountant and Shri Umesh Paswan, Fisheries Extension Supervisor.
The programme has benefitted 68 fishers belonging to economically under-privileged groups.
