Training on Genetically Engineered Plants Filed Trial Monitoring

GeneticallyEngineered The ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad conducted a training workshop on monitoring of confined field trials of regulated GE Plants during 3-4 June, 2015.

The Workshop was organized by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Govt. of India in association with NAARM and Biotech Consortium India Ltd. (BCIL). This was an initiative under United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) -GEF supported phase II capacity building project on biosafety.

Dr D. Rama Rao, Director, NAARM, in his opening address emphasized on proper field monitoring trials, and also emphasized on other aspects of technology management as well. Dr Ranjini Warrier, Director, MoEF&CC explained regulations of GE crops under Rule 1989. 

About thirty scientists from ICAR institutes and SAUs, State government officers were explained about different methods of conducting field trials and process for monitoring during crop phase, post harvest, packaging and transport.

Dr. N. Sarala, Dr Sudhakar Babu, the members of RCGM, Dr O.P. Govila, Member, GEAC, MoEF&CC, Govt. of India and Dr Vibha Ahuja, Chief General Manager, BCIL also participated in the Workshop.
