ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil & Water Conservation, Dehradun organized a 5-day training course for senior level Agriculture Officers on Integrated Watershed Management during July 26-30, 2016. The training was sponsored by Institute on Management of Agricultural Extension (IMAGE), Siripur, Bhubaneswar and funded by Directorate of Agriculture & Food Production, Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
Dr. P.K. Mishra, Director, ICAR-IISWC, in valedictory address, said Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana would be a powerful programme to change subsistence farming into commercial farming. The advance irrigation methods like micro irrigation not only save precious water but also enhance productivity of crops, he added. He informed that integrated watershed management programme, one of the components of PMKSY, would play greater role in developing protective irrigation system in rainfed areas.
Course content of the training included integrated watershed management approach, map reading characterization and watershed delineation, watershed evaluation, use of remote sensing and GIS in watershed planning. In addition, field visits to the institute’s museum, research farm Selakui; participatory water resource management project at Langha; and Sainji watershed near Mussoorie were also organized to enhance in-depth insight and exposure of participants in real field situations.
Nineteen officers from 11 districts of Odhisa participated in the programme.
