The Annual Review Meeting of Outreach project on ’Estimation of methane emission under different feeding systems and development of mitigation strategies’ coordinated by the ICAR- National Institute of Animal Nutrition and Physiology, Bengaluru was held at Anand Agricultural University, Anand, Gujarat today.
Dr. N. C. Patel, Vice Chancellor, AAU in his inaugural address stressed upon the need for developing sustainable, effective and farmer’s friendly measures for enteric methane amelioration from Indian livestock.
Dr. Raghavendra Bhatta, Director, NIANP, Bengaluru & Project Coordinator briefed about state wise enteric methane emission inventory developed by the NIANP. He informed that as per NIANP estimates Indian livestock emit less methane as compared to those predicted by many other agencies.
Dr. B. S. Prakash, Assistant Director General (Animal Nutrition & Physiology), ICAR, emphasized the need for the long term evaluation of established methane amelioration approaches by carrying out studies in growing and lactating livestock.
