An Epidemiology School on Aquatic Animal Diseases is being organized at ICAR-NBFGR for scientists involved in the National Surveillance Programme for Aquatic Animal Diseases (NSPAAD) from April 24-28, 2017.
The programme is being led by Prof. Kenton L. Morgan, Emeritus Professor of Epidemiology, Institute of Veterinary Science, and University of Liverpool, U.K. Prof. Morgan is an internationally recognised Aquatic Animal Epidemiologist and involved in the NSPAAD from beginning of the programme. A total of 21 researchers from 8 institutes from all over the country involved in the NSPAAD are attending the training programme.
The emphasis of the programme is to provide training on basic and practical aspects of epidemiology. Some of the topics being covered under the programme study designs; population surveys- estimation of disease frequency; questionnaire design; bias and confounding; identification of risk factors for disease from observational studies using invariable analysis with an introduction to multivariable analysis; introduction to modelling and simulation; introduction to clinical trials and outbreak investigation. It is envisaged that the training will help in developing expertise in the area of aquatic animal epidemiology in the country.
