A 21 days ICAR Winter School on “Omic technologies and modern breeding approaches for conservation and productivity enhancement of indigenous cattle resources” (01-21 November, 2017) was inaugurated at ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cattle, Meerut by Dr. S. K. Singh, Project Director, ICAR-Directorate of Knowledge Management in Agriculture, New Delhi.
Dr. Umesh Singh, Course Director and In-charge Animal Genetics and Breeding section, welcomed the gathering and briefed the importance and relevance of the proposed training. The training covers the emerging areas of functional genomics, proteomics, and various bio informatics tools and breeding approaches employed for conservation and productivity enhancement of indigenous genetic resources. The training will give more emphasis on hands on training on various biotechnological and bioinformatic tools relevant to livestock genome analysis.
B. Prakash, Director, ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cattle addressed the gathering and called the attention for the importance of phenomics in the omic era. Dr. S.K. Singh in his inaugural address described the importance of animal recording system in the genetic improvement of livestock. A total of 17 participants from different parts of the country including State Veterinary Universities, research institutes and KVKs are participating in this training course. Dr. Sushil Kumar, Principal Scientist (AG&B) proposed the vote of thanks.
